The Third Annual SMI Postgraduate Students' Conference was hosted by the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama Rathmines on 22-23 January 2010. For the first year, the conference was held over two days and featured 30 papers including the two winners of the CHMHE Undergraduate Musicology Competition. The conference was opened by Brid Grant, Director and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts and closed by Dr Cliona Doris, Acting Head of the Conservatory. Delegates were addressed by SMI President Professor Jan Smaczny and the guest speaker was Professor John Irving, Director of the Institute of Musical Research at the University of London. The conference also included a recital of lieder given by Colette McGahon-Tosh (mezzo soprano) and Roy Holmes (piano). David Connolly was conference organiser and the conference committee included Carole O’Connor, Adrian Smith, Rachel Talbot and Martin Tourish.
