A rare staged performance of an operatic work by Irish composer Michael William Balfe, probably the foremost composer of opera in the English language during the nineteenth century. Among his twenty-eight staged works, The Sleeping Queen is Balfe's only operetta with a cast of four characters and original scoring for piano accompaniment. It was first presented in 1864 at Thomas German Reed’s Gallery of Illustration, Regent Street London, a unique venue specializing in plays, entertainments and small-scale operatic productions.
Presented by DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama - a vocal and drama department collaboration
