Election of a Student Representative for the Reminder of the 2024–27 Term
Kevin Boushel, the current student representative on the SMI Council, has completed his PhD studies. A new student representative thus has to be elected as indicated by the SMI Constitution (§4):
“The position of student representative on the council shall be held by a registered research student of musicology who is a member of the society and who shall be elected by the student membership of the society. The student representative shall be elected for the duration of the current council unless he/she completes his/her postgraduate studies or otherwise ceases to be a registered research student, in which case a successor shall be elected at the earliest appropriate opportunity.”
We thus invite nominations to run for the position of student representative on the SMI Council. The student representative speaks up in the interest of students, takes part in the meetings of the Council and is particularly involved in the planning and running of the annual postgraduate conference. If you would like to learn more about the role please contact the outgoing representative, Kevin Boushel (kevin.boushel3@mail.dcu.ie).
Expressions of interest have to come from SMI student members in good standing and who are registered for either a Master of Research or a doctoral programme. They should be submitted to the Honorary Secretary (honsec@musicologyireland.com) by Friday, 20 March, using this form. The election will take place online within two weeks of the deadline for the expressions of interest.
Election of a President for the Term 2027–30
The SMI Constitution regulates the election of a new president as follows:
“Elections for a president will take place prior to the council's final year of office. The president-elect shall be directly elected by a ballot of the members of the society, subject to candidates having been proposed and seconded by members of good standing in the society. The president-elect will attend meetings for one year before (s)he takes up office.”
We thus invite nominations for the next SMI president (term 2027–2030), to serve as president-elect in 2026–27. Expressions of interest should be submitted to the Honorary Secretary (honsec@musicologyireland.com) by Friday, 20 March, using this form. The election will take place online within two weeks of the deadline for the expressions of interest.
