The 11th annual plenary conference of the Society for Musicology in Ireland was hosted by the Music Department of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, on 21-23 June 2013. The keynote speakers were Professor Katharine Ellis (University of Bristol) - How to make Wagner normal: Lohengrin’s ‘tour de France’ of 1891/92 - and Professor Harry White (University College Dublin), who gave an address, ‘Credences of Summer’, to mark the tenth anniversary of the Society for Musicology in Ireland.
Following on from the SMI Symposium Musicology in Ireland that had been held at UCD in April 2012, proposals had been invited for papers that further reflected on the consolidation and directions of musicology in Ireland.
